Cascadia with Landmarks Expansion FULL
Friday March 14, 2025 15:30 - 17:00 PDT
Let's play Cascadia and its Landmark Expansion! This tile-laying and token-drafting game can be played up to 6 people. It's a game about the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest or Cascadia! Game was designed by Randy Flynn, art by Beth Sobel, and published by Flatout Games.

In the base game, you take turns building your own Cascadia by creating habitats and populating it with wildlife. You start with a base tile and expand gradually putting the appropriate animal to the habitat. Points are earned through wildlife scoring cards and the largest number of habitat tiles placed together. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins!

The Cascadia: Landmarks expansion allow players to place landmarks within habitats which adds new end-game scoring benefits to the game. It also adds more unique wildlife scoring cards and habitat tiles to add more players to the base game.

Credits: description information was rewritten and taken from Board Game Geek and the publisher

If you are unaware of how the game works, please watch videos ahead of time about the game. I will still be teaching the game on-site to anyone new to the game, but it would be best to know what you're getting into to see if the game is for you!

How to play Cascadia (10-minute video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-r_TekunQI
How to play Cascadia Landmarks (start until 8-minute mark): https://youtu.be/GTb6Tqkloe0?si=EWrKddHZgGKx1MSu&t=11

The Sun is dying

In recent years, the Sun has become increasingly unstable, to the point where experts claim it could go supernova at any moment. The various inhabitants of the planets in this solar system are launching one last effort to save themselves, which involves building a final Ark to propel a small selection of their people into deep space. This requires a great deal of energy, and in a final ironic twist, the only source of such great energy is the dying star itself. In the process of extracting and transmitting the energy required to save themselves, they will be compounding the instability of the Sun and hastening the end of their worlds.

Sol: Last Days of a Star is a board game for one to five players where each player represents a different planetary effort to transmit as much energy from the Sun back to their Ark so they can to escape the solar system before the Sun explodes!

Quacks of Quedlinburg FULL
Friday March 14, 2025 21:00 - 23:30 PDT
In The Quacks of Quedlinburg, players are quack doctors making their own secret brew by adding ingredients one at a time. Each player has their own bag of ingredient chips. During each round, they simultaneously draw chips from their bags and add them to their pots. The higher the face value of the drawn chip, the further it is placed in the pot's swirling pattern, increasing how much the potion will be worth. Push your luck as far as you can, but if you add too many cherry bombs, your pot will explode!

This is a game that I only learned recently, but it's quickly become one of my favorites. Because it's fairly quick, I'm hoping we can get in more than one play.

Bus FULL
Friday March 14, 2025 21:30 - 23:30 PDT
Before Essen 1999, a group of students founded Splotter Spellen to publish their own games. Bus is one of their standout designs. Players compete to transport passengers by expanding routes, adding buses, and developing the city. Destination types (work, bar, home) change each turn, requiring strategic planning.

Actions include buying buses, extending routes, adding buildings, and introducing passengers via bus. A unique turn order mechanic forces tough choices—some actions let the first player execute last, creating tense decision-making.

Bus routes follow Settlers-style placement, extending from either end. Passengers arrive at two train stations, making route planning crucial. Blocking opponents by manipulating building placement can disrupt their efficiency. Smart play involves setting up repeat passengers for future turns.

Ethnos FULL
Saturday March 15, 2025 14:00 - 15:30 PDT
Ethnos is a fantasy themed set collection area control game. In Ethnos, players call upon the support of giants, merfolk, halflings, minotaurs, and other fantasy tribes to help them gain control of the land. After three ages of play, whoever has collected the most glory wins!

In more detail, the land of Ethnos contains twelve tribes of fantasy creatures, and in each game you choose six of them (five in a 2/3-player game), then create a deck with only the creatures in those tribes. The cards come in six colors, which match the six regions of Ethnos. Place three glory tokens in each region at random, arranging them from low to high.

Each player starts the game with one card in hand, then 4-12 cards (double the number of players) are placed face up on the table. On a turn, a player either recruits an ally or plays a band of allies. In the former case, you take a face-up card (without replacing it from the deck) or the top card of the deck and add it to your hand. In the latter case, you choose a set of cards in your hand that match either in tribe or in color, play them in front of you on the table, then discard all other cards in hand. You then place one token in the region that matches the color of the top card just played, and you use the power of the tribe member on the top card just played.

At the end of the first age, whoever has the most tokens in a region scores the glory shown on the first token. After the second age, the players with the most and second most tokens score glory equal to the values shown on the first and second tokens respectively. Players score similarly after the third age, then whoever has the most glory wins. (Games with two and three players last only two ages.)

Indonesia FULL
Saturday March 15, 2025 15:00 - 18:00 PDT
Indonesia is a game in which two to five players build up an economy, trying to acquire the most money. Players acquire production companies, which produce goods (rice, spices, microwaveable meals, rubber, and oil), and shipping companies, which deliver goods to cities. As cities receive goods, they grow, increasing their demands. Production companies earn money for each good delivered to a city, up to the city's capacity, but they must pay shipping companies for the distance traveled, even if they end up losing money. Players can research advantages, like greater shipping capacity or the ability to merge companies, possibly stealing ownership of lucrative plantations or shipping routes by buying out other players.

Battlestar Galactica is a semi-cooperative game for 3–6 players. Players play as one of ten possible characters, classed as 'Political Leaders', 'Military Leaders', 'Pilots', or 'Support', each character having benefits and drawbacks. Player are secretly dealt one loyalty card at the start of the game which determines whether the players are human or Cylon and therefore whether they win or lose if the humans achieve their goal. Simulating the activation of a sleeper agent in the television series who did not realise she was a Cylon, players draw a second card midway through, which may turn them to the Cylon side. A hidden Cylon player can covertly disrupt the humans' plans, meaning that, for the humans, deducing who is secretly an enemy agent is a critical part of the game. Players can send suspected Cylons to Galactica's brig and a revealed Cylon can still be disruptive after returning to their home fleet via the Resurrection Ship.

Honey Buzz + Expansions (Fall Flavors, Honey Pot, Cornucopia) FULL
Saturday March 15, 2025 21:00 - Sunday March 16, 2025 00:00 PDT
The bees have discovered economics. The queens believe that if they sell honey to the bears, badgers, and woodland creatures, they will find peace and prosperity. Spring has arrived and it's time to build the hive, find nectar, make honey, and, for the first time ever, set up shop.

Honey Buzz is a worker bee placement game where players expand a personal beehive by drafting various honeycomb tiles that grant actions that are triggered throughout the game. Each tile represents a different action. Whenever a tile is laid so that it completes a certain pattern, a ring of actions is triggered in whatever order the player chooses. A tile drafted on turn one could be triggered up to three times at any point during the game. It all depends on how the player places their beeples (bee+meeple) and builds their hive. After all, in the honey business, efficiency is queen.

As you continually expand your hive, you'll forage for nectar and pollen, make honey, sell different varieties at the bear market, host honey tastings, and attend to the queen and her court. There's only so much nectar to go around, and finding it won't be easy. Players will have to scout out the nectar field and pay attention to other players searches to try to deduce the location of the nectar they need for themselves.

Diplomacy FILLING
Sunday March 16, 2025 10:00 - 16:00 PDT
In the game, each player represents one of the seven "Great Powers of Europe" in the years prior to World War I. Play begins in the Spring of 1901, and players must negotiate and make deals with other players in order to have any success in expanding their borders. They will make both Spring and Autumn moves each year. with two kinds of military units: armies and fleets. On any given turn, each of your military units has limited options: it can move into an adjoining territory, support an allied unit in an attack on an adjoining territory, support an allied unit in defending an adjoining territory, or hold its position. Players instruct each of their units by writing a set of "orders." The outcome of the various orders is basically determined by the total strength of the units involved. There are no dice rolls or other elements of chance. With its incredibly simplistic movement mechanism fused to a significant negotiation element, this system is highly respected by many gamers.

Star Wars Unlimited Cube Draft FILLING
Sunday March 16, 2025 10:30 - 13:30 PDT
Star Wars Unlimited (SWU) is a trading card game that is designed with a draft format in mind.  I have curated a set of cards (a "cube") which can be used in a draft format without the need to purchase sealed product.  Players should be familiar with the rules of SWU but MTG players should be able to pick it up fairly quickly.  There will be a maximum of 8 players and at least 3 rounds of swiss will determine the winner.

Come for the ridiculously cute meeples, stay for the fun, light strategy game of card drafting and area control. If you are a fan of "Keep The Monsters Out" this is made by the same designer! A fairly simple game but planning available card streaks to match what you would like your meeples on the board to be able to do keeps it feeling strategic.

I played this game once at a convention and have been dying to play it again. It has been a little bit, so please bear with me for rules. I have added extra time to the play time to account for learning time.

Heat: Pedal to the Metal FULL
Sunday March 16, 2025 12:00 - 15:00 PDT
Based on simple and intuitive hand management, Heat: Pedal to the Metal puts players in the driver's seat of intense car races, jockeying for position to cross the finish line first, while managing their car's speed if they don't want to overheat. Selecting the right upgrades for their car will help them hug the curves and keep their engine cool enough to maintain top speeds. Ultimately, their driving skills will be the key to victory!
The game takes about 90 minutes with the full player count, so we can probably get in a second round in enough of us want to.

Galaxy Trucker FULL
Sunday March 16, 2025 12:30 - 14:30 PDT
Galaxy Trucker is a light-hearted, chaotic game played across two phases: first, players will build a space ship in real time, and then they will send that space ship out on an expedition in which it will inevitably be attacked by marauders, hit by asteroids, and possibly destroyed!

Galaxy Trucker is easy to learn and (in my opinion) is more fun when the players at the table are bad at it. It's best for those who enjoy chaos and can laugh at their own misfortune.

John Company: Second Edition FULL
Sunday March 16, 2025 13:00 - 17:00 PDT
In John Company, players assume the roles of ambitious families attempting to use the British East India Company for personal gain. The game begins in the early eighteenth-century, when the Company has a weak foothold on the subcontinent. Over the course of the game, the Company might grow into the most powerful and insidious corporation in the world or collapse under the weight of its own ambition.

John Company is a game about state-sponsored trade monopoly. Unlike most economic games players often do not control their own firms. Instead, they will collectively guide the Company by securing positions of power, attempting to steer the Company’s fate in ways that benefit their own interests. However, the Company is an unwieldy thing. It is difficult to do anything alone, and players will often need to negotiate with one another. In John Company, most everything is up for negotiation.
