BattleTech Learn to Play - Grinder by Catalyst
Saturday March 15, 2025 10:00 - 11:00 PDT
Join us for a Battletech Grinder event, an event which historically is the most popular Battletech event the Catalyst Demo Team runs at GenCon, Origins and many other conventions around the world.

The Battletech Grinder is a casual all-day event and is great for all ability levels where players only pilot one mech at a time. Due to the nature of the event, players can join in, or drop out at any time without disrupting the event, so if you only want to play for a couple of hours and then move on to something else, it's not an issue.

The general idea of the Grinder is that players start with a simple, randomly-assigned small mech that uses basic weapons and rules in a free-for-all style gladiatorial match of Battlemech mayhem. When their mech is destroyed they get randomly-assigned a bigger, better mech that has slightly more complicated weapons and rules, which help ramp the player's learning of the rules and tactics of Battletech in a manageable way, and then thrown back into the carnage! This way new players are introduced to the vast rules of tabletop Battletech over time. Once a player has advanced to the highest class of mech, should they get destroyed again, they start the cycle all over again with a new randomly-assigned basic mech, continuing on in the never-ending slaughterfest.

All supplies will be provided by the Catalyst Demo Team, including miniatures, maps/terrain, dice, record sheets and pencils.
