Merv: The Heart of the Silk Road LIMITED
Sunday March 16, 2025 09:30 - 12:00 PDT
Merv: The Heart of the Silk Road is an economic game charting the rise and fall of the greatest city in the world.
In Merv, players are vying to amass power and wealth in the prosperous heart of the Silk Road. Through careful court intrigue, timely donations to the grand mosque, and favorable trade deals, players attempt to redirect as much of that prosperity as possible into their own pockets.
Meanwhile, beyond the city walls Mongol hordes approach. If you help construct the city walls, you give up on precious opportunities to build up your own stature, but leave it unprotected and you will burn with the city. Every decision is weighty and the consequences of each misstep are dire. Will you rise to prominence or fade into oblivion? Learners are welcome.

Rise & Fall FULL
Sunday March 16, 2025 09:30 - 12:00 PDT
Rise & Fall is a full control strategic game. Each player controls a civilization trying to expand and progress in a fantasy world. This world displays a unique landscape where glaciers live on islands and huge cliffs are common barriers and challenges to overcome.

In this gorgeous land each player starts with a small tribe including a village, a citizen and a ship and will grow to a full civilization with more of the pre-mentioned units but also temples, merchants and the precious highlanders, the only ones able to pass those astonishing cliffs.

Rise & Fall is a very immersive and addictive game, easy to understand, with no luck or randomness involved. The initial creation of the world by itself is a real pleasure and each game brings a different map to the table.

The 18xx family of games are railroad / stock market games, usually with no or very very little luck and heavy strategy. The object isn't necessarily to run the best railroad so much as it is to make the most money. This is a teaching event; games include Tom Lehmann's 1846 and Francis Tresham et al's 1830.

Unfathomable + Expansion FULL
Sunday March 16, 2025 09:30 - 13:30 PDT
Unfathomable is pretty much Battlestar Galactica 2nd ed, a semi co-op game where the players are working together to guide a cruise through the dangerous waters of the Atlantic. However, some players are secretly cultists and hybrids that are manipulating in the shadows to make the cruise sink.

I will be adding the expansion From the Abyss to it, which adds new cool enemies for the cultists and new allies for the Humans.

New players are welcome, but please try to watch a "Learn how to play" video for the base game so the rule explanation can be more an overview rather than a full explanation.

BattleTech Learn to Play - Grinder by Catalyst LIMITED
Sunday March 16, 2025 10:00 - 11:00 PDT
Join us for a Battletech Grinder event, an event which historically is the most popular Battletech event the Catalyst Demo Team runs at GenCon, Origins and many other conventions around the world.

The Battletech Grinder is a casual all-day event and is great for all ability levels where players only pilot one mech at a time. Due to the nature of the event, players can join in, or drop out at any time without disrupting the event, so if you only want to play for a couple of hours and then move on to something else, it's not an issue.

The general idea of the Grinder is that players start with a simple, randomly-assigned small mech that uses basic weapons and rules in a free-for-all style gladiatorial match of Battlemech mayhem. When their mech is destroyed they get randomly-assigned a bigger, better mech that has slightly more complicated weapons and rules, which help ramp the player's learning of the rules and tactics of Battletech in a manageable way, and then thrown back into the carnage! This way new players are introduced to the vast rules of tabletop Battletech over time. Once a player has advanced to the highest class of mech, should they get destroyed again, they start the cycle all over again with a new randomly-assigned basic mech, continuing on in the never-ending slaughterfest.

All supplies will be provided by the Catalyst Demo Team, including miniatures, maps/terrain, dice, record sheets and pencils.

Game of Thrones: The Card Game - Second Edition, Joust LIMITED
Sunday March 16, 2025 10:00 - 12:00 PDT
Game of Thrones: The Card Game is a two-player asymmetric card game, where you play as your favourite GOT house, drafting characters and revealing plots to win challenges, gain power and defeat your opponent, while trying to keep your characters alive for one more round.

We’ll be playing Joust, the two-player version, and Second Edition.

The game is played over a series of head-to-head rounds, where you’ll draft and recruit characters, reveal plot cards, and then attack and defend a series of challenges until one person is declared the victor. It’s a strategy-heavy game, where your resource economy is pretty low, so every choice you make can win or lose the game.

This session is open to all experience levels. If you’re a GOT master, amazing! If you’ve never played before, even better! The mechanics are pretty simple (it’s choosing what to do with your cards that’s the hard part), and if you’ve ever played an asymmetrical card game like Magic before, you’ll pick it up in no time.

GOT Card Game is also a LCG, so building your deck outside of gameplay is a big part of the fun once you’ve got the hang of it. So feel free to bring your own deck if you have one, or you can use one of our 8 pre-built house decks and give it a go.

Take on the role of one of many globe-trotting investigators as you curse and cheer your (miss)fortune as you roll lots of dice on your quest to solve the mysteries of the cosmos.

In this year's entrance exam, puppies with "energetic, loud singing voices" and "small, cute singing voices" will be evaluated. VIVO is a trick-taking game where the follow format changes every trick!

The 2nd one is Ugly Christmas Sweaters: In Ugly Christmas Sweaters, players compete against each other through trick-taking and drafting to collect and assemble sweater pieces. Various gameplay cards (which are drawn at the start of each round) determine gameplay and bonus scoring. The end of a round is triggered when a player completes three sweater builds. At the end of each round, victory points are awarded based on sweaters built and bonus scoring (points for sweaters following round-specific goals and hidden objectives). Build your sweaters quickly!

It's a worker placement / deckbuilding hybrid with medium complexity. The actions are simple enough: Play a card with an icon matching a location, then go to that location and take the action, gaining rewards in whatever order you choose. When you run out of workers or "agents" reveal the remaining cards in your hand to the table, and calculate the buying power on the cards to purchase new cards from a market.

To do so, you send your family members to different areas of town, where they can obtain many achievements. In one location, they get useful resources; in another, development cards that represent newly conquered territories, sponsored buildings, influenced characters, or encouraged ventures; and somewhere else they activate the effects of their cards.
Family members are not identical. At the beginning of each round, you roll three dice to determine their value. You must choose carefully where to send your most valuable family members. Learners are welcome.

BattleTech Learn to Play - Grinder by Catalyst LIMITED
Sunday March 16, 2025 16:00 - 17:00 PDT
